The Inept Gardener is inspired

I've discovered Pinterest! I know it existed but I'm enjoying the creativity of it all, so far I have found the biggest feather show girl head dress ever made, chocolate cake and other lovely things, hence it's page name 'all things lovely'.

I am also moderately keen to do something to the garden this year, after years of sorting most of the house out it's time to do something in the garden.  When I see Sue's and Curtise's lush garden's I always feel inspired to do something with mine

Some can look and see potential (Mr F included)

I have none.......and I am aware I can't have a proper waterfall, fire pit, outside cooking area......or one of those trampolines embedded in the grass but I do want a tiki tiki style bar.  I don't claim to be sophisticated!

This following pics may be painful for those blessed with horticultural finesse.

When we moved in to this house 6 years ago, the garden looked like this, bountiful and full of colour. Top left was an aviary, and the white building is our shed, which I won't go in as it's damp and full of spiders, and whiffy.

now
we killed the garden

I do count the survival of my chilli plant as a triumph

I have also come to the conclusion I need a tripod
it's taken me 8 months
This is what I'm using

Cookie...........I know, she looks like she's pole dancing

Whiskers is a grumpy cat, he was incredibly aggressive when he was younger.  After his 'special' operation we hoped he'd calm down, he has a little but is still prone to lashing out, and then at times he wants lots of love and attention.

I figured out to put my felt head piece on a head band and have had it planted on my head since
it was inspired by Brooke's brilliant felt head piece tutorial

I look like I'm pushing him away, I'm not! multi-tasking - pose and stroke.

a 2 second timer,  I stubbed my ankle on the printer

Last time I wore this top I was still clueless, I kept it and followed Coco's suggestion to put something underneath it, it worked! thanks Coco!

Of course since blogging I have discovered more is more!
these were my daughters
now mine, I love cast-offs!

Inspiration is a wonderful thing, and I love being inspired by all of you wonderful bloggers
I'm a sponge
I absorb a lot
translating ideas is often beset by my incompetence
that's part of the fun though

Thank you for all your wonderful comments on my last post
I apologise for not responding, I have read them all and value them immensley

Have a wonderful week!
I'm off to do laundry, woop!

  1. You and the kitties are gorgeous. I love those spotty pants and your felt headpiece.
I bought a tripod from a chazza but Jon's a lot easier and more compliant! I daren't show you our garden, it goes on for miles (well, it's quite long) and very scary indeed. I stick to the front steps and the window boxes.
Good luck with the laundry! xxx

  2. That felt headpiece is gorgeous! I love the red with the polkadots.

The cat doesn't seem to mind when you take your photos. ; )

    Your tripod made me laugh.

I am terrible when it comes to gardening as well. My husband and I keep waiting for the day when we are rich enough to have progressional landscapers come in and redo the entire yard. That'll be the same day that all the devils run out of hell due to abnormally cold temperatures.

    bisous

  4. If it makes you feel any better, I have some help from a lovely friend in the garden, otherwise it wouldn't look anything like as nice. Bulbs for Spring, cheap bedding plants for instant colour, a few hardy flowering shrubs, something climbing up the fence (jasmine, honeysuckle, clematis, passion flower) and job's a good 'un.
That's a good idea for the headpiece, and you always look fabulous in red, Sandra! Pole-dancing Cookie and grumpy Whiskers are beautiful. Tell me about naughty kitties, Charlie is only nice when he wants food, half the time he'd bite your hand off as soon as look at you. But I appreciate the furry-faced cheek of him, cats are the perfect parasites!
Yes, get a tripod. Mine was cheap off Ebay, and it has made life SO much easier. Well, blogging life - I can't say it's helped with much else! I used to balance my amera on books on top of the ironing board... A tripod is quite liberating, you could take pics in your garden too and be the talk of the neighbours just like I am!
PS. Did you get my message re May 3rd? xxxxx

    1. Oh yes I did get the message! sorry, I'm shit at responding, Daves' dropping me off, I get 'lost' easily apparently - good call on the plant advice, and I will not snigger at clematis (I know, I'm so immature, my Aunt talks about her private clematis a lot) oooh I'm very excited! x x x

  5. Ooooh that garden is dead! I want a garden, so I can cover it with decking and potted plants. A Tiki Style bar in your garden might revive it! If not all the rum in it would be worth having! Pinterest is addictive! xxx

  8. I came to realization that when it comes to gardening, container gardening is my cup of tea, at least at this point of my life. I've done it before - it completely transforms the space, and is not as much work as regular gardening (or that's what I think).

Your home is a charming and creative space! You are such a sweetie to love your grumpy cat. :) They are amazing creatures, I can't imagine our life without our two mischievous kitties.

I love this red top with a turtleneck on you, you look fantastic! The headpiece is wonderful!

  9. To be hoest, your garde looks fine, its like a blank canvas, you can have anything you want in there now.
Your cats are adorable :) I love that they have their own little personalities.

You look great in red by the way - I'm sure I've told you this many times before though :)

I couldn't manage without my tripod.
I picked it up at a tabletop sale and it's been used to death ever since.

I hope you're enjoying your week xx

    1. Dave seems to have 'plans' involving salvage and plants, seeing as it's more practical than a waterfall I think I'll let him get on with it, seems fair hehe! I hope you are having a great week too! x x x

  10. You're wearing pants! Just gorgeous, as always.

Last weekend we dug and tilled and prepared for a vegetable garden, even added a flimsy fence to keep the hound out. Fingers crossed our back yards will look lush soon xx

  12. The thing with dead plants is that you don't have to feel guilty about pulling them out when they're not what you want or where you want! So look on the bright side and see it as a blank canvas instead. I'm looking forward to following your horticultural adventures.
That pussy is a saucy minx ... and just shameless ;0)
And why wear one owl when you can wear two ... more is definitely more :0)

  13. Now you've found Pinterest, you'll never come out alive! That site is so addictive, but also very inspirational.

At least your garden is nice and neat; I've seen far worse! I bet those chilli plants are difficult to keep alive in this country. When I'm taking photos indoors I pretty much do the same thing, or I hang the camera off the wardrobe. When I can take photos in the garden I nab my little sister's tripod; she used to study photography so I guess she has her uses. Haha. I think you can pick them up quite cheap on Amazon. And I love your outfit xx

    1. Oh Louise, Pinterest is fab! I'm camper than camp though, my page is an homage to all things impractical and sparkly, it's brilliant! I am looking for a tripod, 'cheap' is my mantra! x x x

  14. And with your tripod you will need a wireless self timer remote thingymajigaroo like I have. No more running and stubbing your toes then!! Gardens shmardens!! Took me years to reclaim my back yard and find my gardening mojo, but once I did I fell in love with it all. I am 52 and you are still young so you have years to get your gardening gig on. Either that or I shall just have to come over.

Cookie is the perfect name for a pole dancing cat!

Oh, BTW did a bit of shopping at a western store today, but no nice cowboy shirts in the right size. Road trip to small town Alberta tomorrow to go look at the kitchen cabinets ... maybe I'll get lucky!
