Family

Happy New Year to you all!!

I hope your 2015 has started wonderfully well and is treating you brilliantly.

A quick one from me, my Mother-in-Law (MIL) is currently recovering from falling over twice over the festive period, she wasn't partying she insists, I have my doubts ; ) - it's a little hectic at the moment but luckily nothing is very serious (she may disagree with me, actually she would disagree with me!)
MIL is expecting an operation on her broken shoulder soon, there is a lot to do.
She remains to be magnificent and accepting goodies and treats (we decided if she had lots of treats she could do a little bartering for special treatment)

I'm not being glib or rude.  I find in any situation where a loved one is poorly, the last thing you want is a sombre face.  Listen, love, reassure and try and laugh. Sometimes you just need to laugh at nonsense, it releases emotions that need to be freed.  I learned this from my family.

I'm going to be a little late replying, respond and posting for a bit.  Hope you don't mind.

This was New Years Day
with my family,
we have no shame

See you soon!

  2. I'm with you. When you're feeling crummy you just don't want to look at sad faces. I know from experience! A Playboy bus? Yep, that's the way to do it!

  3. I agree...in the face of hardship it is best to stay calm, and try to laugh.

That sounds pretty nasty. I do hope she recovers quickly.

Let's hope the rest of the year doesn't contain any broken bones.

What do they have on the Playboy bus? Is Hugh back there hooked up to his IV of viagara with his bevy of bunnies 1/5th his age surrounding him?

    bisous

  4. Happy New Year, dear Sandra!
What a start to 2015. Wishing your poor Mum-in-Law a speedy recovery. You're dead right, retaining a sense of humour in stressful situations is the only thing to do. When one of Dad's fellow dementia patients spits on her hands and proceeds to smooth down my hair every time I visit I sit there smiling and nodding like I love it.
New Year's Eve and a Playboy coach? Tell me more! xxx

  5. MILs can be dramatic and slightly difficult, we are married to their precious sons remember. I agree with all your strategies tho! You are wise for one so young!! Loving the Playboy Bus, you should have that for your daily transport, you know dropping the girlies at school, grocery shopping the and likes. Good luck with MIL.

  6. I couldn't agree with you more about humour , when life is a pain in the bum, last year with loss of my stepdad and Mr M lost his dad at the end of November we found that a sense of humour help you no end. Dear Sandra Happy New Year and hope your MIL get better soon . love and kisses.

  7. Happy New Year, m'darling! I wish your mum-in -law a quick recovery. I agree...a sense of humour is vital in such stressful situations. Both my dad's parents are in their nineties and have dementia. He is a nightmare in particular and my mum says that if she doesn't laugh, she'd cry when it comes to caring for him. My friend's mum has dementia too and she had me falling about telling me about their shopping trip to Bonmarche. It ended with her mum in her knickers sitting on the floor of a changing room growling at my friend when she tried to get in and help her get dressed. Laugh? We couldn't stop!
Generally speaking, much of life is bleedin' nonsense and needs to be laughed at.
A Playboy coach, eh? Do tell.

  14. What DID you get up to on the back seat of that Playboy bus, Sandra? I feel there's a story to be told...
Oh dear, sending love to your mum-in-law and hope she makes a speedy recovery. Gawd, you have to laugh, don't you? It's the only way to cope sometimes, and a frantic burst of hysterical laughter is highly therapeutic!
    Take care, darling. xxx

  16. I hope your MIL will be back on her feet and getting her own treats soon. There's a phrase that became popular here in the '60s from a book title, I think - "Laughter is the best medicine." So true, we need to laugh to relieve stress and keep us sane. Otherwise we'd all be like Margaret Thatcher (did she ever laugh?).

  17. Wish you a happy and creative 2015 to you and your family. I'm almost in the same situation like you. My MIL keeps on falling but for the moment no operation is needed. Keep strong and keep on laughing as you go.
