I'm about to take you on a journey

.....feel free to leave at any time! I got a little carried away!

My art appreciation class I signed up for last year seems to have stalled, not enough people are signed up, bah! what about the welding course? same thing, bah! however I could do cookery for a £30 charge, I declined, my cooking is average and that's how I like it.

So, I will teach myself about art, and my knowledge is really really bad/ poor/ shocking.

I will do it in little patches, and try and learn little bits at a time.

Hatching plans at 1am
plans hatched when posing are very reliable
(edit; I am also sharing in with lovely Sacramento 'Share in style' favourite colours)

St George's Hall
on the extreme left of it are old prison cells
very very eerie

The Walker Art Gallery
I have come to learn!
inspire me baby!

Audio unit, all swish and very practical

The Tinted Venus by John Gibson
apparently a bit of a shocker, the Victorians were scandalized
not by her nudity
but because of her tinted skin and embellished bits, almost lifelike

I got distracted from Art
Mrs Tinne's wardrobe
awful pictures, beautiful clothes

They reckon she never wore this coat
weep
her social life wasn't as glamorous as her coat
but she bought them to provide commission for the badly paid shop girls

I know the era is not quite right, but Brooke rocks hats

This is a real Rembrandt!
it is really quite thrilling in real life
poor man put up with me scrutinizing his face

Dante's Dream - Dante Gabriel Rossetti
Magnificent
I remember the colour green is used for hope
.....oh! and the person in orange was based on a man!

I love her face
Helen of Troy - Frederick Sandys

......for a millisecond I believed it was her

Outside Selfies

A little bit of my Playlist;
 Heroin - Velvet Undergound
David Bowie - the Major Tom song ( so so sorry, I forgot the actual title!)
Bugsy Malone - We could have been anything that we wanted to be
Dexys Midnight Runners - Oh Gino
McAlmont & Butler - Yes

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Have a wonderful weekend
I hope my artistic journey has not bored you!

If they ain't gonna teach me
I'm gonna do it myself!!!!!

have fun!!!

  1. Sandra Maria Peaches, you are so lucky to have the Walker in your town. I love that place! (I lived in Crewe for 5 years. I know, poor me.) And I have two degrees in Art History. I don't know very much anymore, but I loved going to classes. You should also go to the Lady Lever sometime - it's gorgeous, as is Port Sunlight. But all of that presupposes that you'll enjoy the art of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, which is pretty gorgeous stuff. My favorite is at the Walker - Isabella, by John Everett Millais. It's so cartoonish but beautiful.

I'd love to have Mrs. Tinne's coat!

    1. Thanks Val, It's the first time I have been to the art gallery without my children and I had actual time to look, it was marvelous! good call on the Lady Lever, Mr F is off work soon, day out for us! I googled Isabella, I don't like her brothers at all, vile things! it is a wonderful painting, it made me sad and mad at the same time (I looked up what it meant!) x x x

  2. Hi Sandra, Oh I LOVE this post!
I studied art and it's histories some years ago, it's always fascinating to learn something new.
'The Major Tom Song' (Space Oddity) is one of my favourites :)
Helen of Troy does not look like a woman to be messed with!

Have a wonderful weekend Missy xx

  4. Wonderful place to do a bit of self-educating, Sandra! We are planning a weekend in Liverpool in March, and I want to go to the Walker Gallery. The kids will be forced to enjoy it too. I probably won't look as superbly Mrs Danvers-esque as you as I peruse the Pre-Raphs and the nudes, but I'll give it a go, Doesn't Helen of Troy look sulky? Now that really is a face like a slapped arse. Love the Mrs Tinne's collection, I read about her in The Thoughtful Dresser by Linda Grant.
What excellent choices for your soundtrack too. I haven't thought about McAlmont and Butler for ages, I'll go and find that CD now.
Have a great weekend, love! xxxx

    1. You are coming to Liverpool! I may have to do a drive-by hello! there is a kids part in the Gallery and very kid friendly - the nudes is always good, the Littlest used to be very bashful about all the bums, she's over it now! of course you will look gorgeous for your visit, you always do - hope you had a good listen to McAlmont & Butler! have a great week x x x

  5. I still haven't gone and seen the dresses there. Perhaps on Monday. I always forget that the museums are there, but I do love The Walker!

And how dare she not wear that coat... I'm not tempted to get all St. Trinians and "borrow" the coat!

    Loving the soundtrack :) xxx

  7. I love going to art galleries ... but can rarely round up anyone to come with me ... if only we didn't live on opposite sides of the globe.
I'm actually thinking Helen of Troy looks a bit like me ... when someone wakes me up too early ... or when the kids use up all the internet data ;0)

  8. Damn I love an art gallery! Good on you for some self education - what a great idea. Ooohhh I do love those hats, and I have a real THING for 20's cloche hats. I would have wanted to try them all on , and take home that fabulous coat. Love pouty, surly looking Helen of Troy - she looks she has been told no to something she really wanted and is about to have a tantrum. (Have I been around tantrum throwing children too long?) Also love your selfie - how is your skin soooo perfect. Gorgeous lady! XXX

  11. Sandra, boring is not an applicabile term on this blog!!!! You are brilliant and out of the ordinary, but you surely know that! You look amazing with the mustard coat, and I love your glasses. You know what? I would love you to see you sporting short straight bangs and a neat bob a la Parisienne. Hope you don't mind my advice, I really cannot help providing non-asked for styling advice! Getting to your post subject, Venus is spectacular. Do you like Canova? He is my favourite sculptor. Sorry for the loooong comment! Big hugs

I googled Canova, oh my word! magnificent indeed, how does this happen with marble? I do like sculptures, I can't help touching them, do you? x x x

  12. Love that coat! And isn't it amazing seeing paintings in real life?!? I remember when I first saw a Matisse I actually cried a little. : }
    Also... "space oddity!" lol
Too bad about the classes being cancelled. I hate that. My husband teaches community education and it's always miserable when not enough peeps sign up. Well, so far you're doing an admirable job. I haven't been to a museum in ages. I mean, I'm totally lame.

It must be so disappointing for your husband, it really is a shame especially when so much is on offer, I couldn't believe it as these courses are free too - isn't it amazing seeing a painting in real life though, the Matisse must have been fab! and thank you for 'Space Oddity' my brain turned to mush there! x x x

    1. Thank you, Dante's Dream is massive, and opposite it was a very eerie sculpture of a couple, shoulders up, that freaked me a little (lot!!) when I turned and saw it, Helen of Troy is smaller but still beguiling, I'm so glad you enjoyed it x x x

  19. I do like a wander around a gallery or a museum. I think I would go nuts in Europe with all the history you lot have. NZ is a young country, a baby compared to the mother ship England. Thanks for the tour, where will you take us all next???

    1. Thanks Sue, it's mad sometimes though, there is so much history and it is just part of the landscape, in one of our parks is a tree over a 1000 years old they said it was like a court for legal things, and it just has a small railing around it - I should show King Arthur's stone we found in Ruthin where the blood of Huail (his apparent enemy) is x x x
